Creating Symbols as Memory Markers - A Quilt Workshop at the Sitka Center
I have just returned from a very lovely long weekend at the Sitka Center, on the Oregon Coast. I cannot recommend this place enough, it was so lovely!!
I called the class Creating Symbols as Memory Markers - the idea being that you would create quilt squares based on memories (as abstracted as you like). I taught a variety of techniques, including how to make and follow your own pattern, foundation paper piecing, improv piecing, how to use even your tiniest scraps, and we had enough sun to do make some sun prints too!
Sitka is just north of Lincoln City, in this really beautiful area where the Salmon River flows into the ocean. We got to do a hike that had a view of this confluence, it was so beautiful. I feel so lucky to live in this region, and to get to teach at places like this. It was such a joy to share quiltmaking in this art context, and I’m proud of what everyone made in just 4 days!
